Dry Ingredients:
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup corn starch
Mix dry ingredients until you get a nice
smooth blend. (If environment is a humid
area, you can add 1/3 cup sea salt or Epsom
salts.)
Wet Ingredients:
2 1/2 Tbsp sweet almond oil or jojoba
oil
3/4 Tbsp water or hydrosol
1/2 to 2 teaspoons essential oils or fragrance
oils (depends on how strong you want the
odor)
1/4 tsp Vitamin E oil (optional)
1/4 teaspoon borax (an emulsifier)
vegetable or other natural colorant if desired
Combine all the wet ingredients and borax
in a jar and cover the jar tightly - shake
vigorously. After it is thoroughly mixed,
then slowly drizzle the mix onto the dry
ingredients and blend thoroughly. Pour slowly
or the dry ingredients will start to fizz!
After mixing the dry and wet ingredients,
pack tightly into molds, let sit for about
30 minutes and then slide the molded forms
out. Allow the molded bath bombs to
dry at least twenty-four hours.
Helpful Hints:
Since this mixture is extremely dry and
crumbly, you'll have to pack it into the
molds quite firmly or it won't keep its
shape when unmolding. If you add any other
type of ingredients - including the Epsom
salts, you may find that you need to add
a bit more oil, but if you add to much it
will make it too liquidy and it will melt
in the bathtub too quickly and quite likely
cause too much of a mess. When packing the
molds, the mix should feel like damp sand
and stick together in your hand.
Molds and Packaging:
These 'bath bombs' can be molded into
various molds - from round to shaped molds
- your imagination can run wild. After unpacking
the molds and after they have completely
dried (even sometimes a whole week!) you
can then package them in pretty colored
cellophane wrappers or put a few in a pretty
decorated basket.
